Judy Zexter Santa Monica PsychotherapistBACKGROUND: Throughout her twenty plus years of practice, Judy has worked with a diverse population of women and men who have faced a variety of personal challenges.

She has extensive experience and training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, reflective parenting and family systems therapy which have provided her a solid foundation in her work with adolescents, adults, couples, parents and families.

EDUCATION: Judy’s educational background includes a B.S. in psychology from Syracuse University, an MSW from New York University, a Certificate in Field Instruction from Columbia University Graduate School of Social Work and a Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from The Wright Institute of Los Angeles.

Committed to ongoing training to provide the most effective and innovative methods by which to serve clients, Judy has attended numerous workshops and seminars on a multitude of subjects including attachment and parenting, mood disorders, mindfulness based stress reduction and non violent communication, among many others.  She has also attended lecture series with some of the most prominent leaders of the neuroscience and mindfulness communities, including Jack Kornfield and Dan Seigel.

EXPERIENCE: Prior to establishing her private practice, Judy served as a psychotherapist for 12 years at Good Shepherd Services, a renowned, social services agency serving adolescents with a variety of personal, family, and social challenges. During her employment, she provided individual, family and group psychotherapy to teenaged girls and their families and acted as the clinical supervisor of a multidisciplinary team. Additionally, she was a Lecturer for Columbia University Graduate School of Social Work.

Since establishing her private practice, Judy has worked with a variety of individuals, couples and families in helping them to transform negative patterns into more adaptive ways of functioning.  Judy has also led educational support groups for mothers and fathers that have addressed various stages of the parenting process.

Judy holds licenses to practice psychotherapy in the states of California and New York.
